Celebrating New Rochelle’s young poets for 26 years
Each May, Poetry Out Loud celebrates young poets in grades 3-6 who read their original poems to an audience of family, teachers and community members. The Mayor of the City of New Rochelle emcees the event, held on the third Monday in June, in the high school's auditorium. The NR Fund's Jeremy Scheinfeld Publishing Center publishes a bound volume of the beautiful poems as an annual keepsake for the event. One Poetry Out Loud alum, Harmony Hopwood, was selected as Westchester County's Youth Poet Laureate in 2023.
